The calculator multiplies the spending and rates you enter and subtracts the annual fee you enter. It assumes the rewards are worth their stated percentage, that your bonus rate applies to all spending in the bonus categories with no cap, that your balance is paid in full each month, and that nothing else changes during the year. It does not model sign-up bonuses, caps, merchant category exclusions, foreign transaction fees, interest or late fees. Real cards differ, so results may be higher or lower than what you actually earn.
Card terms change, and we do not track them. The example figures in our articles are illustrations chosen to show the arithmetic, not current offers. We aim to describe legal and regulatory topics accurately and cite official sources, but rules change, and we cannot promise that every statement is current or complete. Check the source or the issuer before relying on it.
Our articles describe general patterns, such as personal guarantees and the different treatment of business cards under consumer-protection rules. Practices vary by issuer and by card, so ask the issuer, and read the cardholder agreement, before you apply.
We link to government and other outside resources for convenience. We do not control them and do not endorse their content or the products they describe.
The calculator never needs your card number, account number, Social Security number or password. Do not enter them, and do not send them to us by email.
